You’ve passed your IAM test, so what next ?
If you don’t practice / review your Advanced skills you will lose them over time. That’s one of the reasons for IAM introducing the Fellows membership where you re-take your test every so often. It pushes members to maintain their Advanced skills in order to keep passing the test, and as a result it qualifies for advantages with IAM Surety.
As an observer for many years I know that I’ve learned more since I passed my test than I did before it. Being an observer pushes me to not only maintain my skills but also to keep improving them. I went on to really push myself and do my Masters as well. Observing and Masters isn’t for everyone but that doesn’t mean that we can’t all aim to maintain or improve our Advanced riding skills.
So, MBEAM is setting up a Full Members Group, exclusively for members who’ve passed their Advanced test and want to maintain their skills or enhance them to the next level.
This will be a small group ride, over a variety of roads which will challenge everyone to make use of the skills they’ve learned about and build on them. We’ll stop somewhere for a coffee and a chat where we’ll have a chance to discuss what has happened on the ride, identify where and how we can improve, and look deeper into Advanced Riding theory and practice. We’ll be out for 3-4 hours and intend to ride in all weathers unless it’s not safe, eg ice and snow.
Group size will be limited and so will be first come first served. Don’t worry if you miss out on the first one, we’ll schedule others and give everyone a chance. As this is a skills ride rather than a social ride no pillions please.
Please note this is only for Full Members and not Observers.
